Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
At Queensland Airports Limited (QAL), we believe that our strength lies in the diversity of our people and the inclusive culture we foster every day. We are committed to creating an environment where everyone, regardless of background, identity or experience, feels valued, respected and empowered to thrive.
Our Commitment to Equity across QAL
Our vision is to ensure that our airports are welcoming gateways that reflect the rich tapestry of our communities. We actively champion equity in all aspects of our operations, from recruitment and career development to customer service and community engagement. Our approach is grounded in the understanding that equity is not just about equal opportunity but about recognising and addressing barriers to participation and advancement.
We drive Diversity, Equity and Inclusion through the following focus areas:
Glidepath
QAL’s Glidepath program is a comprehensive Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiative designed to foster a respectful, diverse and inclusive workplace. Initially focused on three pillars, Inclusive Leadership, Gender and Cultural Diversity, it has expanded to enfold Pride and Accessibility. The program is employee-driven, supported by senior leadership, and has evolved from social events to impactful policy changes affecting all business areas
Gender Equity
QAL has made significant strides in gender equity, earning Work180 Endorsed Employer certification in 2024 and 2025, and recognition as one of Australia’s Top 101 Employers and Best Workplaces for Women by Great Place to Work. Policy enhancements include extended parental leave (18 weeks), partner leave (3 weeks), domestic and family violence leave (12 days), superannuation top-ups for returning parents and work flexibility offerings for every role.
Gender-focused KPIs, succession planning, and pay, guided by a Board-approved Gender Equity Strategy, have led to equal gender representation in senior leadership and reduced the pay gap to 1.4%.
Accessibility
QAL aspires to be Australia’s most accessible airport group, implementing mobility-friendly parking, electric wheelchair charging stations, accessible taxi call points, a digital disability companion app and an Accessibility Access Facilitation Plan. The All-Abilities Reference Group, comprising individuals with lived experience, guides these initiatives, reshaping both physical and digital infrastructure to enhance inclusivity
Cultural Inclusion
QAL deepened its commitment to First Nations peoples by developing and endorsing its first Reconciliation Action Plan in 2025, following extensive consultation. Our airports feature indigenous artworks and hosts activities for National Reconciliation Week to foster cultural education. Procurement policies embed equality in supplier relationships, and community-led Acknowledgement of Country protocols are adopted across all ports
Pride (LGBTQI+)
As the first airport operator in Australia to partner with Pride in Diversity, Australia’s leading subject matter expert in inclusive workplace policy, QAL has implemented policies and initiatives such as the Workplace Affirmation Policy, pronoun email signatures and participation in the Australian Workplace Equality Index to foster a safe and inclusive environment.
