Gold Coast Airport has areas of environmental and cultural value. The airport is in a biogeographic region considered to be one of Australia’s most diverse in terms of its natural terrain and flora species. Approximately 25 per cent of the 371-hectare Commonwealth lease area is dedicated to conservation through the Cobaki environment precinct.

The current Gold Coast Airport environment strategy was approved as part of the 2017 Gold Coast Airport Master Plan. Further information on GCA’s environmental management can be found here.

Townsville Airport is also required to produce an Environment Strategy as part of the master planning process, The 2023 Preliminary Draft Master Plan can be viewed here

All QAL airports have achieved level 2 accreditation under the Airports Council International (ACI) Airport Carbon Accreditation Program.
