Mount Isa Airport is the gateway to outback North Queensland. Located in the heart of one of the world’s most significant multi-mineral deposits, Mount Isa is the mining capital of North West Queensland.
Patronage is primarily business passengers with a growing niche tourism market.
Mount Isa Airport now provides services to and from Brisbane, Townsville and Cairns as well as the outback ports of Cloncurry, Normanton, Mornington Island, Burketown, Doomadgee, Hughendon, Richmond and Julia Creek.
A $1.4 million investment to complete a major extension and upgrade works to the terminal building and airport entrance was completed.
Construction of two hangar facilities with capital expenditure of $1 million.
Installation of AWIS (Aerodrome Weather Information System).
Upgrade to the public car park completed.
Airnorth commenced a weekly Darwin-Mount Isa-Gold Coast service in 2009.
Terminal and runway upgrade works commenced in early 2010.
