A community-based airport generating economic growth for North-West Queensland.
Located at the heart of one of the world’s most significant multi-mineral deposits, Mount Isa is the mining capital of North Queensland. Mount Isa Airport services the huge growth in the mining sector and, as the gateway to the Queensland Outback, also welcomes a significant portion of leisure travellers.
Patronage is primarily business passengers with a growing niche tourism market.
Since the acquisition of Mount Isa Airport by Queensland Airports Ltd there has been significant capacity growth into the airport and region. 2006/2007 passenger movements jumped 18% on the previous year to over 162,000 passengers. This growth can be attributed to unprecedented economic activity within the region and the excellent partnership between Mount Isa Airport, airline partners, three levels of government, the mining industry, and the local business community.
Mount Isa Airport is serviced by Qantas and Macair as well as mining charters.
